- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.38%, chromium (Cr) about 1.85%, manganese (Mn) around 1.40%, molybdenum (Mo) about 0.40%, silicon (Si) around 0.30%.
- Properties: Good machinability and polishability. It offers moderate hardness and toughness, suitable for medium-sized plastic molds.
- H13 hot work tool steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.32%-0.45%, chromium (Cr) about 4.75%-5.50%, manganese (Mn) around 0.20%-0.50%, molybdenum (Mo) about 1.10%-1.75%, vanadium (V) about 0.80%-1.20%.
- Properties: High temperature strength and toughness. Excellent resistance to heat checking and wear. Widely used in hot forging and die casting molds.
European Standards:
- 1.2311 mold steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.37%-0.42%, chromium (Cr) about 1.80%-2.10%, manganese (Mn) around 1.30%-1.60%, molybdenum (Mo) about 0.15%-0.25%, silicon (Si) around 0.20%-0.40%.
- Properties: Good machinability and moderate hardness. Suitable for general-purpose plastic molds.
- 1.2738 pre-hardened mold steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.35%-0.42%, chromium (Cr) about 1.80%-2.10%, manganese (Mn) around 1.30%-1.60%, molybdenum (Mo) about 0.30%-0.55%, nickel (Ni) about 0.90%-1.20%.
- Properties: Pre-hardened to a relatively high hardness, reducing the need for post-machining heat treatment. Good dimensional stability and polishability.
German Standards:
- 1.2343 hot work tool steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.36%-0.42%, chromium (Cr) about 4.80%-5.50%, manganese (Mn) around 0.30%-0.50%, molybdenum (Mo) about 1.20%-1.50%, vanadium (V) about 0.90%-1.10%.
- Properties: Similar to H13, with high heat resistance and wear resistance. Used in hot work applications.
- 1.2083 corrosion-resistant mold steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.36%-0.42%, chromium (Cr) about 12.50%-13.50%, manganese (Mn) around 0.50%-0.80%, silicon (Si) around 0.30%-0.50%.
- Properties: Good corrosion resistance and polishability. Suitable for molds in contact with corrosive plastics.
Japanese Standards:
- S50C carbon steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.47%-0.53%, chromium (Cr) less than 0.25%, manganese (Mn) around 0.60%-0.90%, silicon (Si) around 0.15%-0.35%.
- Properties: Moderate strength and hardness. Commonly used in low to medium complexity molds.
- NAK80 pre-hardened plastic mold steel:
- Chemical composition: carbon (C) around 0.15%, nickel (Ni) about 3.00%, chromium (Cr) about 1.60%, manganese (Mn) around 1.50%, molybdenum (Mo) about 0.30%.
- Properties: High hardness and excellent polishability. Used for high-gloss plastic molds.
